Colonel John Wheeler Middle School

The Col. Wheeler “B” Team defeated the Taft Bulldogs last night by the score of 30-0 in the rivalry game. Key contributors on offense included quarterback Tommy Redden and tailback Fernando Mendes. Mendes scored on the opening drive with a 6-yard run into the end zone. Redden would then score a 2-point conversion to lead Taft by the score of 8-0. Mendes wouldn’t be done. He would take a Taft fumble and turn it into a 60-yard scoop-and-score midway through the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter, linebacker Finn O’Shea would intercept a Taft pass and take it 45 yards for another Col. Wheeler touchdown. With minutes remaining until halftime, Tommy Redden had a 38-yard run, and a play later he would score on a 4-yard quarterback keeper. Blake Yopp caught two passes, and H-back Ben Shelton caught another during the offensive drive. That would be all the scoring in the game. In the 2nd half, the Col. Wheeler defense took over the game. Lead defensive tacklers included Gideon Narkum, Emmit Paz, and Tyler Dvorscak, who made big plays to stop the Taft offense. Great season by all! Go Dogs!
